Column Dump

To dump the internal representation of columns use the DUMP built-in function: 

  DUMP (column_value, format)

where format is:

Format Description
8 Octal
10 Decimal
16 Hexadecimal
17 Single Character

For example: 

  SELECT DUMP (1001,16) FROM dual;

returns: 

  Typ=2 Len=3: c2,b,2

To output a column in hexadecimal use the 'XXXXXXXX' format mask e.g: 

  SELECT TO_CHAR (65536,'XXXXXXXX') FROM dual;

returns: 

  10000
